The Physical Activity and Screen Time manual is an at-your-fingertips resource for childcare practitioners and care providers. The games, guidelines, tips, and tools can help you create an active, healthy environment in your childcare centre. Guidelines – these are general guidelines that could be considered “gold standards”. Use these guidelines or your provincial/territorial guidelines in your childcare centre.
Practices – can be used to help you use the guidelines in your centre. This section includes one-page ideas and information about physical activity and screen time, games, activities, key definitions, crafts and more that you can use for planning each day. Environment – this section provides tips and ideas that you can make to the physical environment that encourage physical activity. Learn new ideas for promoting a safe and fun physical activity environment in your centre.

Family – these resources will help you support the families of the children in your centre. Here you will find sample newsletters, games, tips, whole-day guidelines and resources to provide to parents. *Remember, you can share any part of the Healthy Beginnings 2-5 manuals with parents/caregivers. If the children have a favourite game, snack or activity, we encourage you to share with parents/caregivers.
The information in this manual can help increase physical activity levels and reduce screen time for children in your centre. This manual is meant to be flexible and provide inspiration for creating a healthy, active environment. Adapt these games, activities and resources to meet the needs of your centre.
